Matt Orum bounced back from a narrow loss at the Texas State Disc Golf Championship to win last weekend's Lone Star Classic in Austin, Texas. Orum kept his momentum from the weekend before and opened up with a 10-under par and added a 14-under par. Both of those rounds were rated 1063 with the first one being the hot round.
He was tied for the lead after round two and was able to best his closest competitor by five shots in the final to win by that same margin. He fought off a bogey on the front nine and one on the back with 10 birdies to finish with a 32-under 162 total. Orum's performance earned him a USDGC spot this year.
G.T. Hancock was one off the hot pace on the third and final day to climb into a second place tie in his home state.
The weekend prior, at the year's first National Tour, Orum finshed second to lead four top 5 finishes and four additional top 25 finishes across both MPO and FPO.
Orum's 10-under second round put him squarely in the mix and tied for the lead entering the final day. He finished with birdies on four of his last six holes, to lock up the runner-up finish, just ahead of teammate Chris Dickerson.
Dickerson was a lead card mainstay throughout the event and was able to wrap up a podium finish, tied for third. Kevin Jones added a tied for fifth finish, while Alden Harris wrapped up the event tied for 11th. Ezra Robinson had a tied for 24th finish.
In FPO, it was Catrina Allen who led the way in tying for fourth. Heather Young placed 12th with Sara Sinclair notching a tied for 18th finish.
Additional March Highlights:
- 20 wins across divisions with 34 top 5 finishes.
- Seven Top 10 finishes at two Elite Series Events
- Catrina Allen's Silver Series win at The Open at Belton with Heather Young one stroke back.
- Justin Bunnell's A-Tier win at Throw Down the Mountain IX. Both he and Brandon Brown qualified for USDGC.
